This policy explains how Makiko Harris Studio collects and uses your personal information. Makiko Harris Studio is the trading name of Christine Shimizu, who is the data controller for the purposes of UK data protection law.
What we collect
When you sign up to our mailing list, enquire about work, or purchase from us, we may collect your name, email address, postal address, phone number, and details of your enquiries or purchases. Our website and emails may also collect basic technical data, such as whether an email was opened or a link was clicked.
How we use it
We use your information to:
- send you news about exhibitions, performances, and new work, where you have opted in
- respond to enquiries and manage sales, commissions, and loans
- keep records required for accounting and tax purposes
Legal basis
We send mailings with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. We process enquiry and sales information to fulfil our agreements with you, to meet legal obligations, and for our legitimate interest in running the studio.
Who we share it with
We never sell your data. We use trusted service providers to run our website and mailing list, including Artlogic, who process data on our behalf under appropriate safeguards. We may share details with galleries, shippers, or fabricators where needed to complete a sale or loan.
How long we keep it
Mailing list data is kept until you unsubscribe. Sales and financial records are kept for six years, as required by HMRC.
Cookies
Our website uses cookies, small text files stored on your device, to make the site work properly and to understand how visitors use it.
- Essential cookies keep the site running, for example remembering your preferences or items you’ve enquired about. These can’t be switched off.
- Analytics cookies [e.g. Google Analytics] help us see which pages are visited and how people find the site. This information is aggregated and doesn’t identify you personally. We only use these with your consent.
Our emails may also contain tracking pixels that tell us whether a message was opened or a link was clicked, which helps us improve our mailings.
You can manage or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time, and change your choices using the cookie banner on our site. Blocking some cookies may affect how the site works.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct, or delete your data, object to its use, or withdraw consent at any time. Every mailing includes an unsubscribe link. To make a request, email [your email].
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
